Considering How To Effectively Light An Environment

January 25th, 2012

Lighting is always a hugely important issue when it comes to your home. Perhaps you have moved into your new house and after you’ve done all of the decorating, you don’t quite know how to light everything. The worst scenario is if you choose lights that are inappropriate for the mood that you are trying to create. Functional spaces like kitchens and bathrooms obviously need a lot of instantaneous light that is energy efficient. So larger downlights might be your best option because they will spread a lot of light from above giving you all you need to adequately do what you need to. In the kitchen in particular, where hot food is being handled, adequate lighting is critical. But this also means no shadows, so it is often effective to have more than one light source that can compensate for it. This doesn’t mean that you have to forget completely about ambient lighting because when the kitchen is not in use, you can switch to something more aesthetically pleasing.

The same goes for the bedroom, but to a lesser degree. LED strip lights allow you to be particularly creative with how you choose to light your sleeping area. As a place that might benefit a lot from more ambient light sources, having the choice of being able to switch between larger lights and smaller, can make all the difference to how you perceive the room. Having a variety of light sources also is great for entertaining guests since it facilitates changes in mood as the day passes.

Stay safe and healthy at work

December 13th, 2011

Safety comes first in life as well as in work and as the prospect of a Siberian winter approaches for many of us in the United Kingdom, it really is time to  ensure that we remain safe, healthy and secure at work and reduce risks as much as possible. Salt seems to be one product that sells out fast in the winter and we never seem to stockpile enough. However, a 7.5 KG tub of ice melt from Magic Safety Products will stop ice and snow forming on paths and driveways for a full 24 hour and as this premium product has been tested in airport runways and is safe to be used on concrete or metal as well as being non-toxic and safe for carpeted floors, it has the ideal combination of high performance and versatility. Our health and safety range contains many such magnificent items and is worth a look right now as you can order from the comfort of your home whilst your friends and neighbours scramble in stores to grab the last of the stock.
First aid is another area where provision is mandatory and we can supply many products to keep you and your staff safe in the result of accidents. The Roebuck eye wash kit is a prime example: it includes two 1000ml sterile eye wash bottles, four sterile eye wash dressings, self-supporting workbench and tough hinged case.
Finally, if you have staff that regularly use potentially dangerous equipment such as toolbox,
Power tools, you should ensure that their personal protective equipment is up to scratch and again, www.buckandhickman.com can be trusted to provide the best choice on the market.
