Attractions in and around Hobart
Hobart is an ideal base for touring Southern Tasmania!
Many of Hobart's attractions are within an easy walk from Blue Hills
Hobart Motel. Others are within an easy drive and touring services cater
for those who do not wish to drive.
The vibrant Salamanca markets
(left) takes place every Saturday and is our number
one tourism attraction.
The market is an easy 5 minute walk from where you are staying at Blue Hills Hobart
Motel. The market is open on Saturdays from 9.00am to 3.00pm.
The 1830’s
sandstone warehouses are home to galleries, studios, restaurants, shops and
cafes.
We can also make a booking for you to visit two of Hobart's cultural
icons - the Cascade Brewery (right); Australia's oldest brewery and the Cadburys
Chocolate Factory at Claremont.
The most famous facade in Hobart is that of the Cascade Brewery, standing
alone with Mount Wellington looming behind it.
The brewery established by
Peter Degraves in 1824, is the oldest in Australia, and still produces
premium beers from Tasmanian hops and barley and pure water from further up
Mount Wellington.
The Cadbury chocolate factory is located at Claremont a northern suburb
of Hobart (approximately 20 minutes drive from Hobart). Taste chocolate
samples as you follow the guided tour of the famous chocolate making
factory – established in 1921. Chocolate sales are not permitted unless
participating in a factory tour. Bookings are essential. You can ring

arrange a harbour cruise/tour of the factory. Tours start with a video
presentation before setting off on the 1.5 kilometre guided tour.
The
Hobart Docks Area, tranquil until New Year, is normally full of fishing boats
and pleasure craft.
New Years Day on the Hobart waterfront, crowds flock to see the
competitors in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race arrive and berth in the
harbour.
Hobart's' Royal Botanic Gardens are within easy walking distance. The
Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens were established in 1818 and covers 13.5
hectares. The Gardens feature the nation's widest collection of temperate
plants and exotic trees.
The South East
The south-east region of Tasmania is rich in agricultural pursuits,
forests, rivers, wilderness and the landscape is busy with the many
activities such natural abundance produces. You can visit the areas below:
The beautiful Huon Valley; winding rivers, vineyards and great views As
you travel deeper within the Huon Valley you can visit areas of
unparalleled natural beauty within the Hartz National Park and also
experience the tourism attraction; Tahune Forest AirWalk
- a walk among the treetops.
This major tourist attraction, developed by Forestry
Tasmania, is in the Tahune Forest Reserve; a leisurely and enjoyable 70
minute drive south of Hobart.
Then there is historic town Richmond - site of Australia's
oldest bridge and oldest Roman Catholic church.
or the former penal colony of Port Arthur!
